Power Query is leading the industry in finding new ways to use Artificial Intelligence to make data preparation tasks easier. An evolution that’s helping you to do more with your data in smarter ways, every day.

Data Extraction By Example

Whether you’re trying to extract data from an unstructured data source (like a web page) or reshaping an existing table within the Power Query Editor, you can easily apply Power Query’s Data Extraction By Example to get the job done quickly and correctly.

Add column from examples

Transform, combine, extract or enrich your data, in one or more columns within the Power Query Editor tables. Simply specify a few output values for your new columns and Power Query generates the right column generation logic for you.

Web By Example

Extract any data from any HTML page in the world. Just preview the source page and specify output values. Power Query will do the time-consuming work and extract all the appropriate data for you.

Fuzzy Merge correlates data across disparate sources

More often than not, you’ll need Fuzzy Matching techniques to correlate things like slightly different versions of product names, customer names or address information—to name a few examples.

Power Query’s built-in Fuzzy Matching algorithm lets you to merge multiple tables using an approximate match across one or more columns from each table. Its preconfigured default settings (similarity threshold, ignore casing and spaces, custom transformations table, etc.) can also easily be customized to specific scenarios.

Spotting and understanding issues with data

The Power Query Editor gives you more than 300 data transformations that can be applied to any of the supported data sources. Power Query’s Data Profiling capabilities help you identify any issues that exist at a glance.

Inline Column Quality bars

Quickly spot erroneous or empty values across all your columns.

Inline Value Distribution histograms

Understand the number of different values, which are unique, and most/least common.

Detailed Column Profiles pane

Select a specific column and dig deeper into a profile to fully understand what’s in the data.

Spotting and understanding issues with data

Course correct with maximum efficiency

Data Profiling also lets you take action right from the Editor, based on Recommended Transformations—Remove Errors and Empty values, Remove Duplicates, Filter out specific values, and so on.

Power Query’s Data Profiles can run over the top 1,000 rows (Preview mode) or applied over an entire table, simply by changing the setting from the status bar. Plus you’ll get updated profiles immediately.
